The United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union created the International Military Tribunal in August of 1945. The Tribunal held trials in Nuremberg, Germany which is where Hitler had staged Nazi Party Allies. Twenty-two leaders of Nazi Germany were prosecuted, three were acquitted, seven were given prison sentences, and twelve were given death sentences. Later, in 1949, 24 more German leaders were sentenced to death and another 107 were given prison sentences.
